Richard was the son of George Franklin Hudson and Amelia Eliza Beach (her burial location is currently unknown)


RICHARD FURMAN HUDSON was affectionately known as Grandpap" by all his grandkids. He immigrated from Jefferson County, Georgia to Montgomery, Alabama in 1903. He was an unsponsored but a bright and industrious young man. He worked for the MONTGOMERY ADVERTISER, a newspaper founded in 1829 and in continuous daily publication since before the War Between The States.

He became owner and publisher of the paper. Grover Hall, Jr. wrote an article commemorating his fiftieth year working at the paper. When "Grandpap" retired in 1963, he was owner and publisher of two newspapers and the Chief Executive Officer. At age 79 he walked with a cane but he still ran the new newspapers.
