"Catherine M., wife of D. W. Bourland, died January 21, 1891, after a long and painful illness, at the residence of her son-in-law, J. W. Lidey, of this city. She was born in Putman [sic] County, Indiana, November 18, 1837, consequently was 53 years, two months and three days old. She emigrated to this county with a widowed mother and family in the fall of 1854 and was married to D.W. Bourland November 18, 1855. To this union was born five children, two of whom survive her, Mrs. J. W. Lidey of this city, and Mrs. M. A. Sprinkle of Rice, Colorado, three having predeceased her to the better land. The friends of the deceased attribute as one cause of the stroke of paralysis, on June 2, 1890, the strain upon the nerves caused by the death of her youngest daughter, Jennie, a few months previous. She was a loving, tender mother, a faithful wife and a devoted Christian, having united with the Missionary Baptist church in Greencastle, Indiana, while young, living a consistent member of the same, dying in full faith of the gospel."
