OBITUARY for Betsy Marie Pearson
The Arizona Republic May 8, 1976 Senate page found dead
A 19-year-old page for the Arizona Senate was found shot and fatally wounded in her home Friday, an apparent suicide, police said. Investigators said Betsy Marie Pearson, a Camelback High School graduate and a page since Jan. 3, 1975, was found wounded in the kitchen of the mobile home she shared with her mother, Mrs. Anne Pearson, at 2222 E. Campbell. The girl's .22 caliber carbine was beside her. Detective Dan Barker said Miss Pearson telephoned a girl friend Friday morning and asked her to stop by the mobile home. The friend found the door open and discovered Miss Pearson lying on the kitchen floor. Because the carbine was moved by the friend, and because the small- caliber wound in the midsection did not bleed, firemen working to revive her did not realize at first that Miss Pearson had been shot, Barker said. But a police officer spotted the weapon, determined it had been fired and the wound was found. Miss Pearson' was taken to Doctor's Hospital, but died there a 'short time later. Barker said notes left by Miss Pearson and statements from friends and relatives indicated that she had been despondent, but" no specific reason was given why she might kill herself.
