John K. Farnam 87, Fishers, died Feb. 13, 2004. He was born on Jan. 29, 1917 in Frankfort, KY. John worked for Reliance Electric in Columbus, IN, until his retirement in 1982.

John was a member of the 515th Bomber Squadron, 376th Bombardment Group in World War II. He flew as a Flight Engineer on the B-24 Liberator "Dopey Goldberg" tail 88 during the bombing of Ploesti Romania oil fields on 1 Aug 43. On 16 Aug 43, he was shot down while performing duties on the B 24 "Teggie Ann" tail 100 while bombing Foggia Italy. John was a POW till the end of the war in STALAG XVIIB in Krems, Austria.

He earned the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal (5 Oak Leaf Clusters), Purple Heart, European/Middle Eastern Medal with 4 battle stars, 2 Distinguished Unit Citations, Good Conduct Medal, POW Medal and the World War 2 Victory Medal.

John was an American Hero! Memorial services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation. John was preceded in death by his daughter, Nancy Wilkinson. Survivors: wife, Margaret Farnam; son, Tom Farnam; daughter, Elizabeth Zapfe; and 3 grandchildren. Arrangements: Randall & Roberts Fishers Mortuary.
