Herman served in the Unites States Army and retired from the South Carolina National Guard.
He was a former Belton Fire Chief.
Mr. Ambrose is survived by his wife, Elsie May (Taylor) Ambrose, his sons, Douglas Ambrose, Wendell Ambrose, Dale Ambrose and Danny Ambrose, his daughters, Ethel (Ambrose) Strickland, Becky (Ambrose) Oyler and Diane (Ambrose) Call, his sister, Marjean (Ambrose) Loftis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Wister Ambrose and Rosa lee (Blalock) Ambrose, his brothers, Carl D. "Jack" Ambrose, John Fred Ambrose and Wayne Ambrose; his sister, Betty Lou (Ambrose) Colson.
