ROCKWELL, Phebe L. 11-4-1879 4-23-1897 Newell Newell, Newell Twp. Buena Vista d/o D.J. & L.J. Her mother d. 4-9-1893.

Died at Newell, Iowa, Tuesday morning, March 23, 1897, of brain fever, Miss Phebe Lovina Rockwell, daughter of D.J. Rockwell, formerly of South Wayne, this county, aged 17 years and 4 months. We clip the following tribute of respect from the Newell Mirror:
Miss Rockwell was ill for the short space of two weeks, but was a great sufferer from the start to her death. She was born at Wayne, Wisconsin, Nov. 4th, 1879, where she lived with her parents until her mother's death, April 9, 1883. She still resided with her father, her older sister, Mrs. F.A. Powell, assuming the position of housekeeper until 1892, when the whole family moved on a farm near Newell, Iowa, where they have since resided until about the first of March, when they moved into town and were making their home with F.A. Powell and wife.
Miss Phebe has been one of the brightest scholars in our public school ever since her removal to Iowa and was beloved by her teachers and schoolmates for her kind and loving disposition. The memory of her kind acts will long remain green in the hearts of her intimate friends and fellow students.
The deceased leaves a loving and indulgent father, three sisters and two brothers, who were at her bedside at the time of her death.
