Elderly Woman Credited With Saving Neighbors
A local woman credits her elderly mother with saving the neighborhood from flames which engulfed a house and could have spread to others early Monday morning.
Mrs. Lonnie Ollison says her mother, Mrs. Lila Clark, age 92, awoke about 3 a.m. Sunday to discover the home next to her on fire. Mrs. Clark ran to her daughters home and alerted the family by ringing an old cowbell at the back door and then beating on the windows of her children's bedroom.
Mrs. Clark has lived there with daughters family for 29 years. Mrs. Ollison said the doctors in San Antonio had given her mother only a year to live in @945. Mrs. Clarks mother, Margaret Jones, died at the age 114. Her present doctor, Wyman Sandlin, says she is in good health says Mrs. Ollison. Mrs. Clark has 14 children.
