MILDRED (KIRKPATRICK) ABBOTT, former high school teacher, was born November 25, 1906, near Stockton, Cedar County, Missouri. She received her schooling in Stockton, and graduated from high school in 1924. The following year was spent at William Woods College for women at Fulton, Missouri. The rest of her college work was done at Southwest Missouri State College in Springfield, Missouri, where she received a B.S. Degree in English, Speech, and History. Mrs. Abbott taught school thirty-three years, the last twenty in her home town of Stockton. In 1959, she received the Freedom's Foundation National Classroom Teacher's Award for outstanding in this field.

In 1936, she was married to James D. Nelson, an educator, who passed away in 1947.

She has always been active in community affairs, and was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star, and local clubs.

In her years of teaching, she directed approximately sixty-five plays, and attended county and district speech contests each year where her students were consistent winners.

On retiring from teaching in 1967, she was married June 16, 1967 to Clayton Abbott, a retired Government employee.
