John William Armstrong is the son of William Perry Armstrong and Agnes Lillie Chattin Armstrong. He was the husband of Queenie I. Norris Armstrong.

JOHN W. ARMSTRONG

John William Armstrong, 76, 904 Plum St., died Thursday at 1:30 a.m. at a local hospital following a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at the Twelfth Street Baptist Church Saturday at 2 p.m. with Dr. H. C. Hopkins officiating.

Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery with Collier-Butler Funeral Home directing.

Active pallbearers will be Othie Chamblee, C. J. Johnson, J. D. Roberson, Travis Moore, Bill McCartney, Louis Wright, Jim Winot, Joe Hughes and Wilford Cahoon.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Louis Wright Sunday School class at the Twelfth Street Baptist Church, Dr. Lindsey Miller, Dr. J.S. Bobo, Dr. Mereer Rowe, Vann Pruitt, Adkins Dickson, Arthur Ralls, Jesse Owens, George Moody, Tom Sansom, G. H. Davis, Tom Thrasher, W. D. Gause, A. C. Michaels, John Hagedorn, Jack Saka, Gregory Mastoras, Frank I. Smith, R. W. Camp, Herbert Stewart, Wiley Hickman and Ralph Chaltant.

Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Queenie Norris Armstrong; four daughters, Mrs. Allene Moore, Gadsden, Mrs. Helen Watson, Charlotte, N. C., Mrs. Eva Norris Reed, Birmingham, and Mrs. June Gersten, Monteray, Calif.; one son, Fred Elton Armstrong, Birmingham; three brothers, Louis and Reuben Armstrong, Gadsden, and Douglass Armstrong, Thomasville, Ga., nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Mr. Armstrong was a native and lifelong resident of Etowah County and a member of the Twelfth Street Baptist Church. He was retired.

The body is to remain at Collier-Butler Chapel and will lie in state at the church from 1 p.m. until the hour of service.
