A memorial service will be conducted at 7 p.m. Thursday at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1601 North Lucille St. in Wasilla, with Pastor John Beck officiating. Mr. Johnson was born in Michigan on Feb. 21, 1937. Mr. Johnson has lived in Alaska for the past 20 years, residing in Anchorage and the Palmer area. He was employed with Bariod Drilling off and on for more than 10 years. He and his wife, Bonnie, have been members of the King of Kings Lutheran Church in Wasilla for more than five years. At one time Mr. Johnson flew as a commercial pilot. His hobbies included sailing, flying and carpentry work. In the spring of 1982, Jerry and wife Bonnie sailed to many areas on their 33-foot sailboat, "Faith." From Seward, they sailed to the San Juan Islands, then to Hawaii. They traveled from Hawaii to San Francisco and then down the coast to Mexico and Costa Rica; through the Panama Canal; to the Grand Cayman Islands and on to Florida. From there, Mr. Johnson took his boat to Bainbridge Island in Washington. Jerry's wife said, "Jerry loved his dogs, Kissy and Foxy. Kissy died four months ago and that very day he got Foxy. Jerry had many friends who cared and loved him. His love for his wife, sailing, flying, strong and confident faith in his eternal salvation will never be forgotten. He will be missed by everyone who knew him."
