Eugene Joseph Papa Sr., 83, Lecanto, died Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007, at Citrus Memorial Health System in Inverness.
Mr. Papa was born April 6, 1924, in New Hartford, Conn., the son of Cordelia (Talbot) and Domenic Papa Sr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
Mr. Papa co-founded Papas Dodge in New Britain, Conn., in 1947. He retired from the dealership in 1974 to operate a Ma & Pa general store in Tolland, Mass. He moved to Florida in 1989.
He was a talented woodcrafter and enjoyed making items for craft shows along with his wife Peg. They were known as the Crafty Couple.
He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Beverly Hills and the New Britain Connecticut VFW. He was an avid NASCAR fan.
He was deeply loved and will be terribly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Eugene J. Papa Jr., brother, Domenic Papa Jr., and sister Phyllis Papa.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marguerite ?Peg? Papa of Lecanto; three daughters, Lorrie Morton and husband Alex of Beverly Hills, Cordelia Papa of Southwick, Mass., and Betty LaPlante and husband Jim of Westfield, Mass.; sister-in-law, Helen Papa of Farmington, Conn.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
