Ex-Superintendent Water Plant Here Dies Last Evening
Dabney Minor Tyler, retired superintendent of Elkins waterworks station and resident of the city for 43 years, died at (:45 o'clock Tuesday night at his residence at 153 Delaware Avenue. His age was 75 years.
Mr. Tyler had been in failing health for the past two years and returned to his home June 3 from the University of Virginia Hospital at Charlottesville where he had been a patient since May 23.
Held Post 36 Years
Mr. Tyler was superintendent of the Elkins waterworks station for 36 years, a position in which he went far beyond the requirement of duty. He was widely recognized in his profession and contributed to professional journals. Following the 1930 drought, an engineering publication printed an article by him in which he told how Elkins had solved its water supply problem by bringing an emergency supply from Cheat River to the city.
He attended Davis and Elkins College and later West Virginia University where he studied chemistry, a course used in connection with his duties at the waterworks pumping station.
Known to his friends here as "D. M." Mr. Tyler was active in church and fraternal affairs.
On Church Board
He was an active member of the Woodford Memorial Methodist Church in which he was a member of the Official Boad and the Board of Trustees.
He was a member of Elkins Lodge No. 108, A. F. and A. M.; Elkins Chapter No. 35, Royal Arch Masons; Pilgrim Commandery NC, 21, Knights Templar, and Osiris Shrine Temple of Wheeling.
Nr, Tyler was born September 7, 1880, in Albermarle County, Va., a son of the late John F. and Sallie R. Childress Tyler. In October of 1910, he married Miss Beryl Octavia Johnson in Covington, Va.,

He also is survived by one brother, John R. Tyler of Schuyler, Va., and two sisters, Mrs. E. W. Hudson of Scottsdale, Pa., and Mrs. Dorsey G. Smith of Bremo-Bluff, Va.
Friends will be received at the John W. Lohr Funeral Home after 10 o'clock Thursday morning until12:30o'clock Friday afternoon. The body will be removed to the Church at 1 o'clock Friday afternoon where final rites will be conducted at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon. The Rev. J. D. Engle, pastor of the Woodford Memorial Methodist Church will officiate, and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery.
