Francis Argyle Curtis
Francis (Frank) Argyle Curtis was born in Nauvoo, Illinois, the 5 October 1846. He was the third child of Moses Curtis and Aurelia P. Jackman. Second child having died at Winter Quarters, Nebraska. The family, parents, and grandparents on both sides were devoted members of the Mormon (L.D.S.) Church. They suffered great hardships because of the persecution of the Saints, driving them from their homes heartlessly in the middle of the frozen winter months.
Father Moses moved his little family, with the rest of the Mormons west to Salt Lake Valley, Utah. Francis (Frank) had seven siblings, but three never reached adulthood. Frank married Mariam Malina Rudd on 21 May 1868. They were sealed to each other the 25 October 1886.
They were blessed with four children, the first was Mariam, born 9 May 1870. She died in Holden, Utah less than a year old. Second was Caroline (Carrie) born 4 May 1872, third was Francis (Frank), born 28 June 1874, then 25 August, 1876, Lillian Melvina was born.
On June 25, 1876, two months before Lillian was born, Francis Argyle died. The result of an accident that had happened a year before. He was with a group of men cutting logs in what was known as Maple Canyon, out of Salem, Utah. A man by the name of Blaze Young had a log roll on him. He was severely injured, and they were afraid to move him. Frank, being the youngest was sent to get the Dr. and help. It was summer time. He ran most of the way, about six miles.
Frank became overheated and over exhausted, what we now know as a heat stroke. He got help to Blaze, but was never able to recover his health. He died a year later, just 29 years old. Leaving behind a young wife, with two very small children and a new baby soon to be born
