Gene C. Gold, 77, Joplin, died on Sunday, Aug. 17, 2008 at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, following an illness since July. Gene was born Dec. 22, 1930 in Neosho, the son of Noah and Grace (Garner) Gold and was a lifelong area resident. Gene graduated from Neosho High School, Joplin Junior College and attended University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. He served in the U.S. Navy and worked in sales, retiring in December 1995. Gene was a member of the Joplin Elks Club and Community of Christ Church in Joplin. He married Thelma (Gurley) in Feb. 1957 and she survives. Additional survivors include two sons, Dr. Carl Gene Gold and wife, Denise, Springfield, ILL and Gary Lee Gold and wife, Laurie, Freeport, ILL; one sister, Ruebelle Embrey, Neosho and five grandchildren. Memorial Services will be Friday, Aug. 22, 2008 at 1:00 pm at Community of Christ Church, Joplin, Elder Lester Lay will officiate. Friends may call at the Clark Funeral Home, Neosho on Wed. from noon to 5 pm and Thursday from 9 am to 7 pm and the family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 to 7 pm at the funeral home.
