Funeral services for Walter Allison Thorngate were held Monday, at the North Loup Seventh Day Baptist Church. Mr. Thorngate died Nov. 11 at the Valley County Hospital.
The Rev. Duane L. Davis officiated at the 2:30 p.m. service. Mrs. Jeneane Abel sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Take My Hand Precious Lord." Mrs. Louise Brennick was the organist. Pallbearers were Herald Hoeppner, Charles Goodrich, John Hamer, Clyde Keown, Paul Jones and Wayne Monk. Interment was in the North Loup Hillside Cemetery with graveside military rites. The Hastings-Pearson Mortuary had charge of arrangements.
Born at North Loup Oct. 12, 1898, Mr. Thorngate was the son of Ray G. and Flora (David) Thorngate. He and Grace S. Sample were married Dec. 24, 1923 at North Loup. A World War I veteran, he enlisted at the Navy recruiting station at Omaha, Jan. 5, 1918 and was honorably discharged at the Great Lakes Naval Station, Mar. 8, 1919. Most of his life was lived in the North Loup vicinity. He farmed, worked several years for the Nebraska State Hiway Dept. and was rural mail carrier out of North Loup for 25 years until retirement in 1965. He had been a member of the North Loup American Legion Ralph B. Rich Post #285 for many years.
Survivors are his wife of North Loup; two sons, Walter R. of Fresno, Calif. And George A. of Lincoln; four daughters, Dorothy Thorngate of Lincoln, Mrs. Virgil Annyas of Snohomish, Wash., Mrs. Patricia Law of Renton, Wash. And Mrs. Dale Boyce of North Loup; three sisters, Mrs. R. H. Maxson of Milton, Wis., Aletha Thorngate and Alice Thorngate, both of Madison, Wis. and several grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister.
