Mildred, Mom, Grandma, Great Grandma and Great Great Grandma Roberts Klein was born March 28, 1913 in the town of Longrun, MO. Longrun is 45 minnutes from Ava in the Mark Twain National Forest. All that exists now is a few vacant structures, two church buildings and a cemetery. She was the first child born to Monta Roberts and Elsie Hailey. Mildred father taught school and sold insurance. Her grandfather, Lewis Oliver Hailey was an attorney. His interest was politics and was elected delegate to the National Convention held in St Louis in 1888. Her Great Grandfather James Hailey was Probate Judge, County Treasurer and Postmaster of Ava. He platted the town and helped survey it and named it Ava. A Bible name. Her parents divorced and her mother married Brice Swisher. When she was 17 and her sister Leila 15 they moved to La Habra CA. When she was 18 she married Henry Newson and had 5 children. Clarence, Henry Hugh, George, Rhoberta and Philys. They divorced. The 2nd World War came and things were tough. She went to work as a sample grabber for Wilshire Oil. There she met and married her soul mate of 63 years John Klein in 1946. He was wonderful. Married her with 5 children. She went to work for the telephone Co. in Downey CA. She got a job as a switchboard operator and within one year she was promoted to Supervisor. She retired at age 55. Her husband John retired and they enjoyed traveling in their trailor camping and fishing with good friends. They went on cruises, life was good. She was a excellent cook. She loved to play games-Hearts pinochle, dominoes, yahtzee, scrabble- you name it. And she would win too. She and John lived life to the fullest. She never had a bad word to say about anyone. She gave of herself freely and she never broke a promise. She didn't curse and was constantly in motion. It wasn't until she was well over 90 that she began to slow down. They decided to sell their home and move into a reitrement home in Fullerton, CA. It is called Morningside. They had many friends and she enjoyed her later years. But she would tell you, What I am the most proud of is my family. My husband of 63 years, my 5 beloved children, 10 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren.
