Carleton R. Brown, 82, died at a Portland hospital. He was born in Portland, a son of Edwin C. and Marguerita Rogers Brown, and attended local schools. He was a graduate of Edward Little High School and was concert master of the orchestra.

Mr. Brown served with the Army during World War II.

Was retired as a supervisor of mail transport trucks after 35 years with the Postal Service.

He was a member of North Deering Congregrational Church, he acted as choir director for 17 years.

He enjoyed woodworking and, according to his family, was an accomplished craftsman, creating several items for the church.

After his retirement, he worked for Yerxa's Lawn and Garden Center in South Portland. He was a member of the Railway Mail Service Retirees.

Surviving are his wife, Ruth Vosmus Brown, three sons, Philip and Peter, Alan; three daughters, Janet, Ruth and Virginia (Ginger); a sister, Marilynn Ames; and 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services at the North Deering Congregational Church. Burial will be in Brooklawn Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Jones, Rich and Hutchins Funeral Home.
