Civil War Union Army Officer. He served as a colonel in the 9th New Jersey Volunteer Infantry. He fought in the Richmond Campaign and the Wilderness Campaign and died at Chesapeake in the U.S. Army Hospital Fortress Monroe, Virgina on May 24, 1864 of wounds received in action at the Battle of Drury's Bluff, Virgina. On June 15, 1864 in honor of the memory of the colonel the battery and redoubt on Cobb's Hill near signal tower was named Redoubt Zabriskie, Ninth New Jersey Volunteers. His father Abraham Oothout Zabriskie was a State Senator from New Jersey.
