PIONEER J. K. ALLARD DEAD. Father of S. I. Allard Passes Away at Riverside Home.

John K. Allard, a pioneer of the early fifties, and father of S. I. Allard, the well known real estate and insurance broker of this city, passed peacefully away at his home at Riverside on Mad River about midnight Tuesday, death being due to cancer of the stomach, from which deceased had been a patient sufferer for six months or more. While the aged gentleman was known to be in a critical condition, none of his relatives, despite his advanced age, believed the end so near, consequently his death was a great shock to them and the community as well. John K. Allard was a native of New Hampshire, aged seventy-five years. He joined the early rush to the California gold fields in 1850, and after a fairly prosperous sojourn in the mines returned to the East. The year 1877, however, again saw him westward bound, and a short time later he located in this city. A number of years ago Mr. Allard purchased a ranch on Mad River, located near the present milling town of Riverside. As a rancher Mr. Allard was fairly prosperous All during his long life he was an active worker, his vigorous constitution permitting him to attend to the manifold duties of the farm long after he had passed an age at which most of his class retire, content to spend the remainder of their days beneath the proverbial vine and fig tree in restful quiet and thoughtful contemplation. Deceased is survived by a widow and three children, S. I. Allard, of this city, J. M. Allard, of Massachusetts, and Miss Margaret Allard, of Riverside, the latter aged ten years. The body wits brought to this city by Undertaker M. Engles last evening, and arrangements made for the funeral, which will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock under the auspices of Fortuna Lodge No. 221, I. O. O. F., of which deceased was a member of many years standing. The interment will be in Myrtle Grove cemetery, where Alpha Allard, a son of the dead man, who was killed in a woods accident at Riverside about a year and a half ago, is buried.
