It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.

She was born and raised in Oklahoma and lived the past 40 years in Camarillo. She married the man of her dreams, Robert Poteet, Jr., on Oct. 3, 1954, and they had two children. Her Number One priority was spending quality time with her family and raising her two children. She was a wonderful and caring person to anyone lucky enough to come in contact with her. She had beautiful, piercing blue eyes that reflected her bright and caring spirit. She loved arranging family camping outings and dirt bike riding adventures.

After her family was grown she traveled extensively with her husband in their motor home. She was the family "storyteller" and matriarch sharing their family's history. She was an avid student of many subjects but particularly enjoyed researching her Choctaw Indian Native American heritage legacy.

She had a successful 20-year career with Bank of A. Levy, beginning as a teller in Saticoy and working her way up to the title of Corporate Senior Vice President. In the 1980s she was the President of the Ventura Chapter of the National Association of Women in Banking. Her multiple workshop and seminar presentations focused on leadership and helping women succeed in the workforce.

She was a mentor to many of Ventura County's most notable banking and business professionals. In 1990 Beta Sigma Phi honored her as the Camarillo Woman of the Year. She was a founding member and past president of Ventura County Professional Women's Network. She served on the Advisory Committee of the Ventura County Goodwill industries as they were building their rehabilitation facility. She said, "I like the philosophy of helping people help themselves." In addition, she was a former member of the Board of Directors of the Ventura Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of Soroptimist International of Oxnard.

Her humility, generosity and kindness spilled over to many areas of the community. Her family, extended family and many friends called her "Mom." Many of her hundreds of friends, admirers and co-workers were the lucky recipients of her unique wisdom and encouragement that helped them grow and create more successful lives.

She was preceded in death by Robert, her beloved husband of 53 years, and two sisters, Bonnie Morsey and Wanda Culver. She is survived by her children, Vicki Rodriguez of Camarillo and Michael Poteet of Thousand Oaks, their spouses, David Rodriguez and Letitia Poteet; grandchildren, Dustin and Garrett Poteet, David and Dana Rodriguez and Robert Zorzi; great-grandson, Adam Sumano; nieces, Theresa Culver, Donn Hendricks, Virginia Steuber; nephew, Scott Updyke and their families.

In recent years mom has said many times, "It's been a wonderful life!" In accordance with "Mom's" wishes, no viewing or memorial services are planned.

In lieu of flowers please consider a memorial contribution to the Boys & Girls Club of Ventura Saticoy Expansion Fund in memory of Wahneta Poteet. (Her current "favorite" charity, and in Saticoy , where her banking career began.)
