John Milton Hayden was the son of Robert McClellan Hayden and Elizabeth Ann Adams. John married Jemima C. Clemens. They had six children: Laura, Mary Eliza, Charles Andrew, Edward, Ellsworth Elsie and Nellie May.
Obit: John Milton Hayden died at his home in east Menard on March 25, aged 65 years, 11 months, 20 days. He was born in Fleming County, Kentucky, April 22, 1841, and removed with his parents, Robert and Eliza Hayden, to Menard County in 1846, where he spent most of the years of his life. In July 1860, he was married to Jemima Clemens, who survives him. To them were born three daughters, Mary Denton, wife of Samuel Denton of Hastings; Flora, who died at the age of three, and Nellie May Rogers, wife of Peter Rogers, who passed away last December; and three sons, Charles Andrew Edward and Ellsowrth all of this county. He also leaves to mourn his loss a sister, Mrs. John Alkire of Sweetwater, two brothers, Barney Hayden of Colorado City, Colorado, and Nathan Hayden of Truro, Iowa, and seven grandchildren. Comrade John M. Hayden enlisted in Company C, 28th I.V.I., and was enrolled on February, 1865 and served one year, being discharged at Brownsville, Texas. The funeral services were held at the Lebanon church, conducted by Revs. Worth and Cherry. Burial by Pollock Post, No. 200, G.A.R., in the Lebanon Cemetery. (April 5, 1907, Petersburg Democrat).
