Sue Katherine Svoboda, age 72, of York, NE, passed away February, 2, 2012 at York. She was born June 17, 1939 in Iowa City, IA to Hans and Dorothy (McBride) Thompsen.

Sue graduated from York High School in 1957 and was united in marriage to Leon Svoboda on May 16, 1959 in York. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in York where she was also the secretary for almost 35 years. Her position as secretary allowed her to be surrounded by all the children at St. Joseph's School which was one of her greatest joys. She was a member of the St. Joseph's Altar Society and Catholic Daughters of America. Her hobbies included bowling, playing bridge, and sporting events of all kinds. She enjoyed being a part of the Neighborhood Lunch Group, playing cards with family and friends, and attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events.

Left to cherish Sue's memory are her husband Leon of York; son John Svoboda and wife Sharon of Lincoln, NE, daughter Kelly and her husband Brad Brooke of Benedict, NE, , daughter Kathy and husband Gayle Vrbas of Imperial, NE, and son-in-law Tom Neville of York. Grandchildren include Josh (Jenny) Conrad of Omaha, NE, Evan and Samantha Neville of York, Jessica (Brett) Himmelberg of Lincoln, Kindra Brooke of Lincoln, Whitney, Caleb, and Jacob Brooke of Benedict, Leslie Svoboda of San Antonio, TX, Todd Svoboda of Green Bay, WI, Allyson, Kadin, and Ryley Vrbas of Imperial. Great-grandchildren include Keeley, Nicholas, Emory, and Malekai of Omaha. Sue is also survived by her brother Richard "Dick" and wife Marjo Thompsen of Omaha, Mildred Thompsen of Lincoln, other family members, and a host of friends.

Preceding her in death were her parents, infant twin brother, daughter, Pam Neville, son-in-law Nick Conrad, and daughter-in-law Marla Svoboda.

Interment was in the St. Joseph's Cemetery, NE.
