Dale was the son of William E. and Doris P. (Klinger) Coldiron. He attended Warren Central High School in Warren Township, IN, and is survived by two sisters.

On 16 March 1969, Lance Corporal Dale William Coldiron was serving with CAP 4-1-4, CACO 4-1, 4th CAG, Combined Action, III Marine Amphibious Force, in Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam.

On that day, LCpl Coldiron was killed in action when he sustained wounds from an explosive device. His body was recovered.
