NEWPORT NEWS - Lloyd Burke Walker, age 95, died peacefully at the Newport Convalescent Center on Jan. 27, 2012. He was a resident of Newport News, Va., since 1991.
Born in Nicholas County, W.Va., to the late Everett Hampton Walker and Lenna Truman Walker, he was one of four brothers.
Although he spent most of his childhood and adult life in Fairmont, W.Va., Lloyd met the love of his life, Beulah Mae Cook Walker, in Mobile, Ala., during World War II. She preceded him in death by one month. They were married for 68 years.
Mr. Walker felt fortunate that his parents and both sets of grandparents were also married for more than 60 years.
While living in Fairmont, Mr. Walker worked for White-Westinghouse until his retirement in 1981. He was a member of Diamond Street Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge where he was a thirty-second degree Mason.
Lloyd was preceded in death by his three brothers, Ray Alva, Waldo Joel, and Truman Everett Walker.
Left to cherish his precious memory are a son, Lloyd Ronald Walker of New York , N.Y. and a daughter, Janet Walker Lockhart and husband John. He was the proud grandfather of Truman Scott Lockhart and Matthew Lloyd Lockhart and wife Adele. Kennedy Mae Lockhart is his much adored great-grandchild. All are of Newport News. Lloyd will also be missed by three sisters-in-law, a brother-in-law, many beloved Walker and Cook nieces and nephews and their families; special cousins, Betty Truman Hutchinson and Francie Truman Coe; and his daughter's in-laws, Richard and Linda Hedio.
A private memorial service was held at W. J. Smith and Son Funeral Home followed by interment at Peninsula Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Rose Garden at Huntington Park payable to Newport News Parks and Recreation. Designate: Rose Garden Fund. Mail to : Landscape Services; Attention: Doug Kennedy, Supervisor; 100 Minton Road; Newport News, VA 23606.
