Dorothy M. (Miller) Ward, Verona, formerly of Boscobel, passed away on February 4,
2012 at Badger Prairie Healthcare Center in Verona, WI
Dorothy was born on September 13, 1922 in Marietta Township, Crawford County, WI,
the daughter of Nile and Nellie (Day) Miller. She attended Wayne School in Marietta
Township and graduated from Boscobel High School in 1940. She was married on
October 11, 1940 in Dubuque, IA to Keith T. Ward. They farmed together for many
years in Marietta Township. She also did gardening, canning and preserving of the food
she grew. She was active in the Farmer's Union youth program as a teacher.
Dorothy worked as a nurse's aide at Boscobel Hospital for many years and also at
Oakwood Lutheran Home in Madison. When she was a grandmother she returned to
school at Madison Area Technical College in Madison and graduated as a licensed
practical nurse. She was employed at the Spring Green Nursing Home in Spring
Green,WI until her retirement. She moved to Verona, WI in 1992 where she has
remained since.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Mary (LaVon) Ritchie of Fitchburg; her son, Ben
(Linda) Ward of Prairie du Sac; five grandchildren, Terry (Callie)Ward of Cottage
Grove; Al Ritchie of Madison; Andrew (Jill) Ritchie of Cross Plains; Tom Ward of
Madison, and Amy (Scott) Pierquet of Lodi; 6 great grandchildren, Kayla and Dakota
Pierquet; Dylan and Ashlyn Ritchie; and Parker & Ellie Ward. She is also survived by
sisters in law, Etta Bachim of Phoenix, AZ, Doris Ward of Boscobel, Rosemary Ward of
Evansville, and Laura (Dick) Daugherty of Portage; brothers in law, Julius (Joyce) Ward
of Muscoda and Dean (Karla) Ward of Boscobel; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith in 1995; her parents; two infant children
Janet Kathleen in 1945 and Kerry Nile in 1950; 1 brother Charles Miller; 4 sisters, Doris
Achenbach, Thelma Sittig, Ruth Milestone, and Shirley Fortney.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at 11:00 Am at
Beeman-Patchak Funeral Home, Boscobel. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until
the time of service. Burial will be in the Boscobel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice. On line condolences can be made at www.beeman-patchakfuneralhome.com.
