OBITUARY - STAFFORD, KANSAS

James Darrel Murphy, 85, died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2012, at Leisure Homestead, Stafford. He was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Stafford, the son of Otis Yale and Edrie Josephine Bagley Murphy. He was a math teacher and a farmer. He was a member of the Stafford Church of Christ and Stafford Education Foundation Board of Directors.

On April 20, 1947, he married Thelma Christine Newell in Stafford. She died July 19, 2007. He is survived by a son, David Murphy, Burlington, Colo.; daughters, Pam Williams, Searcy, Ark., Marsha Cumley, Westminster, Colo., Jeri Obias, Stevenson, Wash., Colleen Sikes, Buena Vista, Colo. and Kristin Tucker, Lakewood, Colo.; brothers, LeRoy Murphy, Hibbing, Minn., and Yale Murphy, Sylvia; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Stafford Church of Christ, with Richard Foster presiding. Burial will be at the Stafford Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday 5 to 7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Stafford. Memorials may be sent to the Stafford Education Foundation or Leisure Homestead in care of the chapel.
