OBITUARY: DANIEL A. LONG - Daniel A. LONG, pioneer South Greensburg resident who served three four-year terms as burgess of the borough, died in his home there, 1326 Elm Street, at 3:50 o'clock Tuesday afternoon following a lengthy illness. He was 72 years old. -Born in New Stanton, he was a son of the late Samuel P. and Almira ANDERSON LONG. Mr. LONG had lived in South Greensburg since his parents moved there from Hunkers in 1890 before the incorporation of the borough. His father also was a South Greensburg burgess, serving two terms. -Active in various community and religious affairs throughout his long residence in South Greensburg, Mr. LONG was for many years a justice of the peace as well as serving as borough burgess from 1926 to 1929 and again 1934 to 1941. -He was a member of the South Greensburg Methodist Church and was extremely active in church activities. He once served as president of the church official board and was for many years a teacher in the Sunday school. During World War II, he was a member of Selective Service Board No. 8. Other organizations of which he was a member included Westmoreland Lodge 840, IOOF, of Greensburg; Greensburg Council 44, Royal Arcanium, and the South Greensburg Volunteer Fire Department. -A retired toolmaker, he was employed for many years at the Walworth plant, formerly Kelly and Jones, in South Greensburg. He retired in 1948. -Mr. and Mrs. Long had been married 50 years in 1949. -Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Julia ZIMMERLY LONG and one son. -Friends will be received from 2 to 5 and 7 to 10 daily at the Paul R. Seeman Funeral Home, South Maple Avenue, where services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock Friday afternoon by his pastor, Rev. Ralph G. WHITE, assisted by Rev. Ralph W. McKENDRICK.
