Doris L. Bass of Bryan, age 87, entered Heaven on February 3, 2012 following a courageous battle with cancer.

Services to celebrate Doris's wonderful life will be held at First Baptist Church in Bryan on Tuesday, February 7, 2012. Viewing and personal remembrances will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by a commemorative service at 7:00 p.m.

She was born in Mount Calm, Texas on April 28, 1924 to wonderful Christian parents, James R. and Ruth Brunson LeNoir. She was raised in a large, loving and supporting family. They relied on each other through the Great Depression, World War II, and together faced life's challenges and many joys.

Doris married Alford Lavon Bass on March 18, 1940 in Mount Calm and vowed until death do us part. True their word, they spent 71 wonderful years together not only husband and wife, but also soul mates and best friends.

Doris spent most of her adult life in Bryan as a mother, homemaker, schoolteacher, and Sunday school teacher. She loved to entertain family and friends at her home. She also loved to travel, especially to visit family and friends. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bryan. She adored the church, and loved the members of her Sunday school class as her Christian brothers and sisters.

To her family and friends, her optimistic approach to life, unwavering Christian faith, and uncanny ability to see the good in others, was and will remain a source of inspiration and a model upon which to rely in pursuit of a wonderful life.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Wilburn A. LeNoir, Harlan Lenoir, Thomas A.E. LeNoir, James R. LeNoir, Jr.; her twin brother, Norris LeNoir, and Alton W. LeNoir.

She is survived by her husband Alford Lavon Bass; her sister Loretta Adair; three sons, Rev. Thomas A. Bass, James L. Bass, and Allan R. "Randy" Bass; six grandchildren, Richard Bass, Robie Bass, Regina Bass Putney, Laura Bass Coleman, Jade Bass and Jenna Bass; and thirteen great-grandchildren.
