Frederick Cloutier was born in Havana, Sargent County, Dakota Territory on November 20, 1884, as per his WWI and WWII draft registration cards, noting he consistantly used this date as his birth date.

Fred's parents were George Cloutier (born in Canada on March 31, 1835) and Rose Martin who was born in Iowa Territory (April 11, 1843), but today is considered Mendota, Dakota County, Minnesota. It is probable that he was the last child born to this couple.

Based on current verifiable research, Fred has the following siblings:

Matilda Cloutier (19 Oct 1860 - 1 Mar 1891) married to Jay Saunders

George Cloutier Sr. (abt 1865 - 3 Aug 1951) married to Mary Rose Longie

Mary Cloutier (abt 1863 - 25 Nov 1923) married to Albert Dechon

Emma Cloutier (27 Mar 1868 - 2 Nov 1913) married to Mathias Paul

Ida Jane Cloutier (Aug 1874 - 18 Apr 1953) married to Harry Grammond

Felix Cloutier (14 Aug 1878 - 24 Aug 1960) married to Margaret Elvira Blood

Joseph Cloutier (22 Mar 1881 - 29 Jan 1929) married to Lila H Barnes

It is possible there are other siblings that died in infancy or very young, but not enough good documentation has been found to substantiate that yet.

Fred's death certificate was completed by his second wife, who very likely did not have complete family information therefore provided incorrect birth date as well as incorrect father's name. Joseph was Fred's brother.

Fred was registered with the Sisseton Indian Agency in South Dakota for many years starting in the late 1800's and into the 1920's based on the annual Indian Census records.
