Glenn B. Matthews, 87, of South Fourth Avenue, Clarion, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010, at his residence.

He was born Nov. 17, 1922, in Sigel.

Mr. Matthews was married June 15, 1944, to the former Gertrude Ganoe, who survives.

He retired after 30 years of driving truck for Miller Transfer and Rigging. During his trucking career, he hauled the Apollo 11 space shuttle for NASA.

Mr. Matthews was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Clarion.

He also was a member of VFW Post 1835 of Franklin, where he and his wife enjoyed dancing on Saturday nights.

Mr. Matthews enjoyed living, loving, dancing, mowing, smiling, cussing, joking and laughing.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Judi Matthews and her friend, Tom Vosburg, of Strattanville; Don Matthews and wife, Frances, of Knox; Sharon Clinger and her friend, Jake Miller, of Shippenville; Glenda Allen and husband, Cliff, of Yuma, Ariz; Bob Matthews and wife, Tammy, of Sligo; and Peg Howe and her husband, Perry, of Clarion; 15 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by brother, John Matthews, and by two grandsons.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. today at the Robert V. Burns Funeral Home in Clarion.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Smith, pastor of the Church of Nazarene in Clarion, officiating.

Entombment will be in the Immaculate Conception Cemetery Mausoleum.
