Joseph Vincent McCullough, a beloved husband and father, gentle leader, avid outdoorsman and trusted friend has been called home to our Lord. He enriched the lives of many through his love, generosity, kindness and leadership. A man of incredible character with unwavering values will be missed by many and loved by all. He was 83 years old. Joseph Vincent McCullough, born in San Antonio, Texas in 1928 to Stella and Hugh Thomas McCullough was the youngest of four children. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in San Antonio and Texas A&M University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology-Class of '51. Joe served in the U.S. Army where he was a platoon leader, advancing to Company Commander, then Regimental GS (operations officer) at the end of tour of duty. Joe married the love of his life and wife of 59 years, Mary Jean, in 1953 and had five wonderful children. Joe has 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Joe worked as an oil and gas exploration geologist and partner with Carl Oil and Gas for 36 years, which later merged with McFarland Energy. As Exploration manager with Carl Oil and Gas, they expanded from South Texas into East Texas, South Louisiana, and Alabama with offices in Corpus Christi, Houston, Lafayette Louisiana and New Orleans. After becoming an independent geologist in 1994, he invested in Oil and Gas Exploration efforts as well as land investments in South Texas. Joe was very active in the Corpus Christi Geological Society. He served in many positions including President. He was involved in the Coastal Bend Geophysical Society, Society for Independent Professional Earth Scientists, American Association of Petroleum Geologists, Texas Independent Producers and Royalty Owners, San Antonio Geological Society, Houston Geological Society, and the Corpus Christi Association of Petroleum Landmen. Joe served as a past president of the Corpus Christi A&M Club and the Corpus Christi Town Club. He was a member of the CCGS History Committee, served as the first President of St. Pius X School Board, St. Patrick's School Board and the first group of lay members on the Corpus Christi Diocesan School Board. He was also an associate member of Boone and Crockett Club and Saltwater-Fisheries Enhancement Association. Joe and wife, Jean have been very active in their parish, St. Pius X Catholic Church since it's inception and instrumental in starting the school. Joe was a member of the Alhambra Baza Men's organization and the Men's Club. Joe was a member of the King's Men Club and honored as King Alonso LII in 2005.Words cannot express how much his family and friends will miss his gentle nature, encouraging words of wisdom, and strength. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to St. Pius X Church or the American Heart Association. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Seaside Funeral Home Chapel with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 P.M. Funeral Mass will be on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Interment to follow at Seaside Memorial Park.
