Born during the final week of 1799 to the Rev. Aaron Condit and his wife "Polly" (nee Mary Dayton), little John Condit died some 3 months before he reached his 5th birthday. Although his gravestone is now largely illegible, the soul effigy in its tympanum has the rounded, pear-shaped face often used to represent an infant or very young child.
