Virginia L. Roper, age 90, of rural Marion, IL the Lake of Egypt area, passed away at 3:38 p.m., on Tuesday, February 7, 2012, in the Harrisburg Medical Center of Harrisburg, IL.

She was born at home on the family farm where she currently lives, on Saturday, August 13, 1921, the daughter of Carl and Esther (Humphrey) Kimmel.

Virginia was a graduate of Goreville High School.

She was united in marriage to Justin Eugene Roper on Sunday, December 8, 1940, in Cape Girardeau, MO and together they shared nearly 60 years of marriage until his death on September 1, 2000.

Her working career was as a tax advisor with H & R Block Tax Services for 20 years until her retirement in 2001. She also was very involved with the business of the family farm known as Kimmel Orchards.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Virginia was formerly very active and severed as Chairman of the Williamson County Women's Farm Bureau traveling throughout the state and nationally representing issues dealing with the Farm Bureau.

She always had and loved her pets and enjoyed all the many different types of wildlife she encountered on the farm; especially the many birds, always making sure they had food.

She is survived by her daughter, Carla Smith of Marion, IL; son and daughter-in-law, Gerald R. and Ruth Roper of Wetumpka, AL; two grandsons, Eric Roper and his wife, Elise of Alabaster, AL and Tracy Smith who is currently serving the United States Army, stationed in Germany and his wife, Yulia; three great grandchildren, Brady and Heidy Smith and Thena Virginia Roper; two sisters, Patricia Kimmel of Tampa, FL and Lenora Borum of Marion, IL, many nieces and nephews, other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant son, Richard; sister, Imogene Miller and son-in-law, Howard Smith.

Arrangements for Virginia L. Roper have been entrusted to the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 N. Court Street, Marion, IL.

The time of visitation will be on Friday, February 9th, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 10, 2012, at Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home with Rev. Jerry Schell presiding.

Interment will follow next to her husband in White Oak Cemetery located near the Lake of Egypt in Williamson County, IL.
