Lawrence Victor Johnson, the son of Andrew and Anna (Larson) Johnson, was born January 8, 1910 in Riverside Township of Clay County, SD. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith as an infant.

Lawrence attended the Ellis White School as a child, and as an adult served on the school board there. On January 8, 1944, he married Bessie Frinkman in the Methodist parsonage in Vermillion, SD. They farmed in the Riverside area on the farm his father purchased in 1890. To this union were born two sons, Lawrence Vincent "Bucky", and one son still living.

In 1957 they moved into Centerville. Lawrence continued farming his parents' farm and did carpenter work on the side. After retiring, Lawrence spent time gardening and helping his son on the farm.

During his last six months, Lawrence had not been feeling well. He died at the Pioneer Memorial Hospital at Viborg on April 2, 1993 at the age of 83 years and 22 days.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his parents, one son, L. Vincent "Bucky", and four sisters, Martha, Teckla, Vina Fray and Margaret. Among those who survive and who gratefully shared his life are his wife and one son, both of Centerville, one sister, Florence Eklund of Beresford, and four grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the Federated United Church of Christ in Centerville, SD.
