Othar A. Crawford Jr., 76, Port Charlotte, died March 14, 2003, at Fawcett Memorial Hospital.

He was born Feb. 6, 1927, in McComb, Miss., and came to Port Charlotte in 1971 from Belle Glade. He taught at Peace River Elementary School for more than 30 years. He had retired as a high school teacher and football and track coach at schools in Pascagoula, Moss Point and Kosciusko, all in Mississippi, and schools in Ripley, Tenn., and Belle Glade.

He graduated from the University of Mississippi, where he played on the football team. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War, who received a Bronze Star. He was a Methodist. He was a Mason.

Survivors include his wife, Leola V.; sons Mitch of Port Charlotte, Othar A. III of Clewiston, Dennis Kinlaw of LaBelle and David Kinlaw of West Palm Beach; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Roberson Funeral Home, Port Charlotte Chapel. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, with military honors by the Army. Memorial services will be later in McComb, Miss. Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida, 5955 Rand Blvd., Sarasota, FL 34238; or to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 495126, Port Charlotte, FL 33949-5126.
