CHETOPA – Mrs. Nelle Columbia Byran, a longtime resident of this community, died in the Oswego hospital at 10 a.m. Friday, March 7, 1958. She had been hospitalized for the past week and in failing health for several years.

Born April 12, 1875, at Chetopa, she was the daughter of Joseph and Martha Columbia. She attended the local schools and for many years as employed as a deputy county treasurer in the Labette County Courthouse. She was married in 1936 to Frank Byran at Merriam, Kas. He died in November 1944 at Cedar Point, Kas. She was a member of the Excelsior chapter of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Presbyterian Church at Cedar Point.

Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Martha Shobe, of Chetopa, with whom she made her home, and a brother George Columbia of rural Chetopa. Elmer Columbia, a Parsons attorney, is a nephew.

The funeral will be Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the Chetopa Methodist Church with the Rev. J.W. Bolton presiding, assisted by Rev. Roy Horton. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, directed by the Miller Funeral Home.
