Mrs. Ruby Hazel Norman Brinkley Leonard passed away Monday, October 26, 2009, at the age of 89 in Landrum, SC.

Mrs. Leonard was born October 17, 1920, in Carroll County, VA, to the late Cora Ella Puckett and William Anderson Norman and lived there as well as in Mount Airy, NC.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Garland Brinkley, who was killed in WWII; her second husband, Henry Baine Leonard, who died in 1980; and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Elizabeth (Lib) Brinkley Holland and Bill of Berlin, MD, and Faye Brinkley McManus and Harold of Inman, SC; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Jerry W. Leonard and Terri of Guston, KY; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren, including a very special great-granddaughter, Hannah McManus; and several nieces and nephews.

She was a resident of White Oak Nursing Home in Tryon, NC, for the past six years.

A graveside service will be conducted at Skyline Memory Gardens Thursday, October 29, 2009, at 12:30 PM. There will be no formal visitation at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Smith Phayer Hospice House, P.O. Box 127, Landrum, SC 29356.
