He was born Jan. 5, 1926, in Enoree, S.C., to Walter E. and Ruth Howe Cooper.
He was retired from Motor Supply Co. of Mount Airy of which he was owner and president for 32 years.
He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a Shriner.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Baker Cooper; a son, Robert K. Cooper of Mount Airy; and two daughters: Rebecca Ruth Cooper of Mount Pleasant, S.C., and Beverly Cooper Holbrook and husband William Lee Holbrook of Louisville, Ky. Also surviving are eight grandchildren: Michael and Katherine Pedraza, Ken, Craig, Katie Cooper and Emily, Alexandria and Hope Holbrook; and cousins Billie V. and Gary Drinnen of Lake Norman, and Marian and Billy Fowler of Spartanburg, S.C.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Cooper was preceded in death by a son, William Howe Cooper Jr.; two brothers: Walter E. Cooper and Ralph E. Cooper; and his stepfather, Dr. Emerson Albright.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 7, 2002, at Central United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Phillip Cole and the Rev. Clay Manning. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Moody Funeral Home, Mount Airy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 1909 N. Main St., Mount Airy, NC 27030; or to American Diabetes Association, 1660 Duke St., Alexandria, VA 22314.
