Joseph E. Atherton 95, passed away Friday, February 10th, in Topeka. He was born January 30, 1917 in Dennis, Kansas, the son of Charles Webster and Molly E. (Edwards) Atherton.

Growing to manhood, he attended Cherryvale Grade School and graduated from Labette County High School, Altamont, in 1935. He also attended Life House International for 4-Square Evangelists in 1941. He had Ministered in Marion until 1948. He had been employed by Quaker Oats Company and was the poultry specialist to Allied Mills. In 1957, he moved to Abilene.

On December 27, 1973, he married Sadie Keim. They made there home in Toronto, Kansas for 12 years before moving to Abilene in 2001. She preceded him in death April 20, 2009.

Survived by: daughterJoEllen Berk, Lenexa, KS. 2 sons Joseph E. Eddie Atherton Jr., Wichita, KS and Chuck Atherton, Topeka, KS. 5 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 13th, at the Abilene Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in his name be made The Prince Of Peace Lutheran Church in Topeka. They may be left at or sent in care of the Danner Funeral Home POB 758 Abilene, Kansas 67410.
