Ector-Funeral services for H.M. Abbott, age 81 of Ector will be held on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at the First Baptist Church in Ector. Bro. Morris Cook will officiate the service. Interment with military honors rendered by the United States Army Honor Guard will follow at Lindsey Cemetery in Randolph, TX. Mr. Abbott passed away on Friday, February 10, 2012 at Texoma Medical Center surrounded by his entire family.

H.M. Abbott was born on June 19, 1930 in Celeste, Texas to parents Finnis E. Abbott and Eva Lena (Parker) Abbott. He attended and graduated from Randolph Schools, and spent most of his life in Fannin County except for the years that he spent in the United States Army, serving in Okinawa, Japan,Vietnam, and Germany.

During his service he met and married Mildred Faye Blanton on October 31, 1951. They celebrated 56 wonderful years together. He became a daddy on April 17, 1954 to Ronald Dean Abbott. A little over a year later, on October 24, 1955, Howard Michael Abbott was born. Three years later while they were stationed in Okinawa their third child was born on October 23, 1958, David Wayne Abbott. The baby was born on July 8, 1963, Steven Ray Abbott.

H.M. retired in 1970 from the Army and brought his family to Sherman, Texas. He received many awards and special recognition for his service in the Army including a bronze star. He went to work at the V.A. Hospital in Bonham, Texas until he took full retirement in 1978 and moved the Abbott family to Ector, Texas.

In 2007, Mildred passed away and H.M. for the first time in a long time was alone. But the Lord knew he would need another companion and in 2010 Joanita Neal came into his life. On January 8, 2011 they were married at Ector Baptist Church. H.M. was a member of the Ector Baptist Church for many years.

He was also preceded in death by his parents Finnis and Eva Lena, his brother Earl Abbott, and son Ronald Dean Abbott.

Survivors include his Wife-Joanita of Ector, TX; Sons-Howard Abbott; David Abbott and wife Shelly of Ector, TX; and Steven Abbott of Bonham, TX; Grandchildren Patrick Abbott of Corsicana, TX; Jennifer (Abbott) Sharp and husband James of Corsicana, TX; Danielle (Abbott) Weeks and husband Joey of Bonham, TX; Devin Abbott of Ector, TX; Cristi Abbott of Ector, TX; and Tiffani Abbott of Bonham, TX; Great-grandchildren-Hayden Abbott, Radney Weeks, Jaycee Sharp, and Raiden Weeks. Also surviving are Brothers-Gene Abbott and wife Valeta; and Charles "Shorty" Abbott and wife Charlene, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of longtime friends.

Family visitation will be held Monday, February 13, 2012 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Cooper-Sorrells Funeral Home in Bonham, Texas.
