Eva Beléndez García was born in Aguada Puerto Rico to Joaquín Beléndez Solá and Cándida Rosa García del Rosario. She was one of the oldest girls in the family, a total of 10 children: 6 girls and 4 boys. One of her sisters died at age two and a baby brother died when he was just a few months old.
When titi Eva was 2 years old she got sick with meningitis, and her mother was not given much hope of her getting well, but that didn't stop her from fighting for her dear daughter's life. Thanks to her dedication, Eva recovered and was able to live a long and normal life. Her brothers and sisters were very close and loved one another very much, and they all taught their own children to do the same. Her daughters and all her nieces and nephews were always very close.
She met and fell in love with a handsome sailor named Pedro Albino, affectionately called Tio Peter, and they soon got married. They had two daughters: Idalie and Cándida Rosa, our dear Candy, named after her maternal grandmother.
I remember that we lived nearby in Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico, but it was a long walk from her home to ours, but she would walk with Candy and Idalie to spend the day with us at least once a week. Us cousins would play the whole day, while titi Eva and mamita chatted away. My youngest sister, Eva, was named by my father after his dear sister. Titi Eva had the beautiful olive skin color, big brown eyes and brown hair typical of us, the Beléndez family.
Sweet and fragile titi Eva, a very inquisitive and affectionate person, was an important person in our lives. Sadly, she spent her last years away from her family, but we always thought about her and kept her in our hearts. She is now in spirit with her mother, father, brothers, sisters, husband and with her two daughters, free of pain, sorrow and suffering.
¡Te quiero mucho y te recuerdo siempre, titi Eva!
