US Representative from Pennsylvania. Attended the rural schools in his native county and the State Normal School at Bloomsburg, he taught school for several years in Union and Snyder Counties, Pennsylvania. He was graduated from Bucknell University, Lewisburg, Pennsylvaia in 1897 and enlisted in Company K, National Guard of Pennsylvania, in 1898. When it was transferred to the 12th Regiment he served as a first lieutenant, promoted to quartermaster with rank of captain, serving until 1902. He studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1900, commenced to practice law in Sunbury, Northumberland County, Pennsylvaia and served as assistant district attorney of Northumberland County. He was elected as a Democrat to the Sixty-third Congress on March 4, 1913 and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving till March 3, 1921. Unsuccessful as a candidate for reelection in 1920, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
