Erin Painter tries on a dress for consultant Dianne Barbaro, her parents Bob and Nora Painter, and fiance Adam Howarth.

Erin Pianter has always been a huge fan of TLC's Say Yes to the Dress. She always thought she'd love to be on the show, which is taped at New York's famous Kleinfeld bridal salon.

The Orlando woman finally got her chance – and will be featured in an episode titled "Dress Mates" on TLC at 9 p.m. Friday.

After Erin got engaged last year, she filled out an application – even though she was battling breast cancer at the time.

"When I was diagnosed with breast cancer, I didn't want it to stop me from living my dreams," says Erin, 33, who moved to Orlando in 1999, after graduating from college in Cleveland.

She worked first at Walt Disney World: "On the Jungle Cruise ride; my parents were so proud – for this they put me through college!" She later took a job at Rollins College in Winter Park, working in career management at the Crummer Graduate School of Business.

Shooting for Say Yes to the Dress was great fun, says Erin. "I love fashion, I love dresses, I was so excited to see what they had for me."

"I'm a ham," admits Erin. "I like to be on camera. My undergrad degree is in broadcasting. I have some experience in TV work."

To tape the show, she traveled to New York (on her own dime) with her parents, Bob and Nora Painter, who had never been to the Big Apple before. Naturally, she was accompanied by her was her fiancé, Adam Howarth, who recently relocated from Manchester, England, to Orlando. And a friend who had recently moved from Orlando to New York also dropped by for a while.

"My fiance wanted to see what I picked out. He knows what I sometimes try to pull off — how I come out with something crazy," says the exuberant Erin.

Her parents and fiancé were all "unwilling participants," she says. "I hope they had a good time. We'll see how they feel after it airs."

Erin had definite ideas about the style of dress she wanted, which caused some tension on the set. "They wanted me to try a strapless dress, but I didn't want strapless. I have this scar from my cancer surgery and I didn't want that to show.

" I also told them I couldn't spend more than $2,000, and I couldn't afford to come back to New York for fittings – I wanted a dress I could take home with me the same day."

Taping Erin's segment of the show took almost four hours. Early on, she established a close bond with bridal consultant Dianne Barbaro, who revealed that her mother had recently died of cancer.

Of the five dresses Dianne selected for Erin to try, she falls in love with an elegant silk ball gown with sweetheart neckline and champagne-colored sash by Carolina Herrera. There was just one problem: the price tag. Even though the $10,000 dress had been drastically reduced, it still was $900 over Erin's budget.

In a made-to-TV moment, Dianne secretly goes to store manager Joan Roberts and pleads Erin's case. Dianne even offers to pay the $900 difference herself.

And there's more . . . but you'll have to tune in tomorrow evening to see how the episode wraps up.

There is a happy ending, of course — and we have the pictures to prove it! On May 29, in a 14th-century palace in Spain, and all decked out in the dress of her dreams, Erin said yes to Adam.
