DR. HAROLD LEROY BARROWS

Dr. Harold LeRoy Barrows was born February 22, 1925 at Medill, Missouri, the son of Levi Abbott Barrows and Marie A. Wollam Barrows. He was married to Colleen Goodson in Carrolltown, Missouri, December 19, 1948.

Dr. Barrows is survived by his wife, Colleen, daughter, Patricia Gene of the home, son Jack and wife of Leavenworth, Kansas, and Jeffrey Keith of the home.
Also surviving are his mother, Marie A. Barrows of Kahoka, four brothers, Guy of Kahoka, Lester and Norman, both at Holts Summitt, Mo., four sisters, Mrs. F.D. (Geraldine) Leach of Kennewick, Washington, Mrs. Robert (Marilyn) Zinnert of Kahoka, Mrs. Carl P. (Carolyn Kay) Doeing of Albuquerque, N.M., and Mrs. Ina L. Wendling of Warrensburg, Mo.
His father and brother Allen, preceded him in death.

Dr. Barrows, 53, Dean of the School of Education at Central Missouri State University died of a heart attack Saturday. Dr. Barrows had been with CMSU since 1970.

Dr. Barrows received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Methodist College at Fayette in 1950 and a Master of Education and Doctor of Education degrees from the University of Missouri- Columbia in 1958 and 1965 respectively.

Beginning his teaching career in Medill in 1947, he later taught at the East Platte Elementary school and the Second Creek Rural School in Platte County. From 1953 to 1957 he was a teacher, assistant principal and principal of Carrollton R-VII School District, Carrollton. For 13 years before joining the CMSU staff, Dr. Barrows served the Center School District, Kansas City, as an elementary and junior high school principal, director of instruction, and assistant superintendent prior to his appointment as superintendent in 1965.

A member of Phi Delta Kappa and Kappa Delta Pi honorary fraternities, he was a Mason and past president of the Missouri Association of Colleges Teaching Education and the Carrollton Kiwanis Club. Dr. Barrows was a member of the Kansas City Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America and served as chairman of the Mohawk District Council in 1966. He was a member and elder of the First Presbyterian Church in Warrensburg and served as an elder of the John Knox (Presbyterian) Kirk in Kansas City. He was a WWII Navy veteran.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Warrensburg. Burial was in Memorial Gardens Cemetery at Warrensburg.
