ATWOOD -- Ray M. Higley, 99, died Sunday (March 7, 2004) at the Rawlins County Health Center in Atwood.

He was born Dec. 3, 1904, to Lizzie Alice (Whisman) and Edna Earl Higley in Mikesel Township southwest of Atwood.

He graduated from Rawlins County High School in 1924.

On Nov. 5, 1930, he married Beverly Barnes. He was a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Lynn; and sister and brother-in-law, Merle and Dr. Kermit Wolfe.

Survivors include his wife, Beverly of Atwood; son, Earl and wife, Gleneva of Atwood; two daughters, Diane and husband, Richard Senecal of Atchinson, Kan., and Janice and husband, Larry Haneborg of North Platte; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Services are Tuesday, 11 a.m., at the Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Atwood with the Rev. James Larson officiating. Private graveside services will be at Atwood Fairview Cemetery.

Visitation is today until 9 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.

Memorials may be given in his name to Rawlins County Health Center, Atwood High School Alumni Association or the Atwood Ambulance Fund.
