An obituary published in the Shelbyville Democrat on November 28, 1929 for Levi Sylvester Slifer, known as Dick, states that he had died November 20th, 1929 at the age of 64 years, 4 months and 19 days. He was born July 1st, 1865, near Greenfield, Ind., the son of Wilson and Amanda Slifer. On February 19, 1896 he was united in marriage to Mary Katherina Huffer and to this union nine children were born, all of whom were living except one daughter, Mary Ellen, who had died January 31, 1901. Surviving were four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Amanda Switzer of Findlay, Mrs. Nellie Steele, Mrs. Rosa Campbell and Dick W., all of Mode; Mrs. Bertha Syfert of Stewardson, Thomas J., Harry D., and Enos W., all at home. He was the fifth child of a family of 13 children, his father, mother and three sisters having preceded him in death. There were seven brothers and two sisters remaining. The funeral was held at the Union Church, Old Mode, conducted by Rev. Dunlap. Interment was in Glenwood Cemetery.
