Beloved wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, sister, aunt and friend, Kimberly Kay Sheppard died peacefully at her home on January 8, 2012 surrounded by her family and friends after a brief illness

Kim was born on April 29, 1967 in Orlando, Florida to Chuck and Sherry Sheppard and grew up in Canton, NC where she was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church and graduated at the top of her 1985 class from Pisgah High School.

Kim graduated from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill in 1989 with a BS degree in Chemistry. Kim attained an MBA from Texas A&M in 1997.

Kim worked for Proctor and Gamble in Greensboro, NC; LuChem in Shreveport, LA; and BASF in Corpus Christi, TX before moving to Colorado In Colorado, Kim worked for Proligo, Transgenomic and Hospira. For the last seven years, Kim worked for Amgen in Boulder and Longmont in the Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Departments and was most recently a Director in Quality Sciences

For the last two decades, Kim has been very involved with the American Cancer Society through The Relay for Life, Strides against Cancer and the Race for the Cure. Kim's teams have raised over $200,000 for the American Cancer Society. Kim met her husband, Juan Montalvo, at a Relay for Life meeting in Texas.

Kim and Juan's son, Cole Jackson, was born on November 18, 2007 and was the light of their lives.

Surviving Kim are her husband Juan Montalvo of Longmont; sons, Joseph Michael, 18, of McAllen Texas, Cole Jackson, 4, of Longmont; mother and father, Sherry and Chuck Sheppard of Wendell NC; sisters and brothers-in-law, Kara and Timothy Hodges of Hope Mills NC, and Cindy and Wes Bingham of Green River WY; Grandmother, Jane Lucas of Orlando FL; Aunt and Uncle, Susan Lucas and Al Mortensen of Ocoee FL; niece Abigail Hodges of Hope Mills NC; nephew Avery Bingham of Green River WY; cousins, Geoffrey and Autumn Strickland, Yvonne, Chris and Camden Creed.
Kim was a mentor to many and an inspiration to all. She taught us how to live and also how to die. We miss her with every breath we take, but we are so grateful for the precious time we had with her.
