Mass of Christian Burial for Apolonia "Appie" Dorothea Friske, 84, Aberdeen will be 10:30am Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 409 2nd Ave. NE, with Father J. Joseph Holzhauser officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with Schriver's Memorial Mortuary & Crematory, 414 5th Ave. NW, in charge of arrangements.
Liturgical wake service followed by the rosary, recited by Catholic Daughters Of The Americas, National Catholic Society of Foresters and the Catholic Aid Association. Visitation will be 4-7pm Friday, at the mortuary and one hour prior to the Mass on Saturday at the church.
Appie passed away Monday, November 7, 2011 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital, Aberdeen, SD. Blessed be her memory.
Apolonia Dorothea Ell was born April 15, 1927 to Wendelin and Anna Mary (Dutenhoffer) Ell in Aberdeen, SD. She attended St. Mary's Parochial School and graduated from Aberdeen Central High in 1945. Appie was employed at Jobbers Warehouse for several years.
Appie and Otto "Sonny" Friske were united in marriage June 12, 1947 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Aberdeen, SD. They continued to make Aberdeen their home where she was the office manager/bookkeeper for their business, "Friske Plumbing and Heating."
She enjoyed entertaining family and friends at their cabin on Richmond Lake, and also fishing and bowling.
Appie is preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Albert, Mike and Joe Ell.
Grateful to have shared Appie's life are, her husband, Otto "Sonny" Friske of Aberdeen, SD, her children, Nancy (Ken) Tiffany of Aberdeen, SD, Mary (Dan) Culey of Sioux Falls, SD, and Dan Friske of Seattle, WA. Three grandchildren, Aimee Okerstrom, Bailey Friske-Thom and Ryan Friske, two great grandchildren, Zachary and Garret Okerstrom. One brother, Edward (Lois) Ell of Tacoma, WA, four sisters, Eleanor Helm of Aberdeen, SD, Kathy Ereth of Olympia, WA, Eva Stratton of Boise, ID, and Lillian (Roger) Miller of Cortland, NE.
