William Eugene "Bill" Parker, 90, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2012, in Alamogordo. Bill was born on Sunday, January 1, 1922, in Tenaha, Texas to Eugene Fisher and Cora Lee (Brown) Parker. Bill was raised in east Texas with his three sisters, who preceded him in death. Bill had a very large extended family that included 52 first cousins. Bill served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II from 1942 to 1946. Bill married his wife, Jerry, in August of 1946. Bill remained loyal and supportive of her until her death in July of 2011. They had two children, James and Marilyn, and he farmed cotton in west Texas until 1958 when he began working as an aircraft mechanic at the Air Base in Big Spring, Texas.
They moved to Alamogordo in 1960. Bill continued as an aircraft mechanic, retiring from Holloman Air Force Base in 1982. During his life he maintained his integrity as an honest, truthful, hardworking man. Bill was also generous and kind and earned the respect of his family and friends. Bill was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, as well as AARP and NARFE. Mr. Parker is survived by his son, James Rogers Parker and his wife, Cathy, of Albuquerque; daughter, Marilyn Marie Edwards, of Alamogordo; and grandchildren, Sarah Propes and her husband, Beau, of Hickory Creek, Texas, Jason Edwards and his wife, Jodi, of Alamogordo, Nikki Parker Ray, M.D., and her husband, Mike, of Albuquerque, and Kelly Jenkins, of Panama City Beach, Fla. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Geraline M. Parker. Funeral services for William Eugene "Bill" Parker will be 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 First St., Alamogordo, with the Rev. Mary Taken officiating.
Interment will be at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Monte Vista Cemetery. The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at Alamogordo Funeral Home, 2301 First St., Alamogordo.
The Parker family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the funeral services. In lieu of flowers, the Parker family has requested donations be made to Grace United Methodist Church.
