Maria Isabel Alvarez, age 85, entered into rest on February 6, 2012 at her home in Prosser. She was born on February 20, 1926 in Cualcoman, Michoacan, Mexico to Nicanor Alvarez and Jovita Chavez. Maria and Alejandro Alvarez Guerrero were married in Cualcoman on April 1, 1945. They moved to the United States in 1987 and settled in Prosser.
Maria loved being a homemaker and taking care of her family. She would wake up at 3:00 in the morning to prepare tortillas to feed her children who would come to her house for breakfast. She also loved going to church and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser.

Maria is survived by seven children, Vicente Alvarez, Maria del Carmen Mendoza, Adolfo Alvarez, Alfonso Alvarez, David Alvarez, Jose Jesus Alvarez and Maria Guadalupe Cepeda; 29 grandchildren; and 33 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Alejandro on July 3, 1991 and 4 children.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at 11:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Prosser. Burial will follow at the Prosser Cemetery. The Rosary will be recited on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday, from 11:00 until 4:00 at Prosser Funeral Home.
